Fragile items need a bit of extra care when you are moving house. Taking time to pack them properly can help prevent breakages, protect valuable belongings and reduce stress on moving day.
Start by using strong boxes that are the right size for the items you are packing. Boxes that are too large can allow things to shift around too much in transit, while boxes that are too small may not provide enough support.
Wrap each item individually using bubble wrap, packing paper or other soft protective material. Glasses, mugs, plates, ornaments and other delicate belongings should all be cushioned well before being placed in a box.
Do not leave empty space inside the box. Use scrunched packing paper, soft towels or other padding to fill gaps so items stay secure and do not move around during transport.
Keep heavier fragile items at the bottom and lighter ones on top. This helps prevent unnecessary pressure and lowers the risk of damage while the boxes are being lifted or stacked.
Label the box clearly as fragile and, where helpful, mark which way up it should be kept. This gives anyone handling the box a better idea of how carefully it should be treated.
Electronics should be packed with extra protection around corners and screens. If you still have the original packaging, that is often the best option because it is designed to fit the item securely.
If you are planning a full house move, our removals service can help transport your belongings safely, and for smaller jobs our man and van service may be the ideal option.
Packing fragile items properly takes a little extra time, but it can make a big difference in keeping your belongings safe throughout the move.
